Volleyball Recap: Darrius Birts Key Part of Team Effort in Pirates Win

There's no place like home for Wheatland, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Yuba City Honkers with a sharp 3-0 win on Monday. That's more bragging rights for the Pirates, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Wheatland never let Yuba City on the board, but things got pretty close in the second set. The final score came out to 25-21, 25-22, 25-12.

Wheatland got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Darrius Birts out in front who had four digs and two blocks. The dominant performance also gave Birts a new career-high in assists (11).

Wheatland now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Yuba City, they dropped their record down to 1-12 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Wheatland has already played their next game, a 3-0 win against Marysville on the 19th. As for Yuba City, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-1 victory against Del Campo on the 18th.
