Baseball Recap: Hancock Panthers vs. Mountain Ridge Miners
Hancock extended their losing streak to eight on Saturday, dropping them down to 2-15. They came up short against the Mountain Ridge Miners, falling 17-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Miners this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-12 back in March.
Bailei Ray was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
As for Mountain Ridge, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-13. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Mountain Ridge's side, Vance Green made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts Green has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Brayden Glass was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. John Wood was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hancock will challenge Brunswick at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Mountain Ridge, they will take on Allegany at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
