Baseball Game Preview: Blacklick Valley Vikings vs. Meyersdale Red Raiders

The Blacklick Valley Vikings will challenge the Meyersdale Red Raiders at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Blacklick Valley will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

If Blacklick Valley beats Meyersdale with eight runs on Monday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Vikings had just enough and edged out Harmony Area 8-6.

The team relied heavily on Greg Schilling, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Collin Nedrich, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

Schilling wasn't the only one making solid contact: Blacklick Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Meyersdale didn't have quite enough to beat Southern Fulton on Friday and fell 5-3.

Meyersdale saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Karter Schurg, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Schurg also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

Meyersdale's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Blacklick Valley, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Blacklick Valley has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Meyersdale struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Blacklick Valley came out on top in a nail-biter against Meyersdale in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Red Raiders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
