Preview: Berthoud Spartans vs. Resurrection Christian Cougars
The Berthoud Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Resurrection Christian Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Berthoud will stroll in with a six game home winning streak (dating back to last season), but they should still watch out: the last time they lost at home was their February 11 matchup with Resurrection Christian.
Last Saturday, Berthoud was able to grind out a solid win over The Classical Academy, taking the game 53-46.
Berthoud got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ryan Callies out in front who scored 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Reece Stratmeyer, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, after a string of eight wins, Resurrection Christian's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a 70-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lutheran. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Ty Yoder, who scored 19 points. He hasn't dropped below 15points for four straight games. Marcus Phillips was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with eight rebounds.
Berthoud is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Resurrection Christian, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 8-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Berthoud have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 31.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Resurrection Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 31.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Berthoud might still be hurting after the 72-47 loss they got from Resurrection Christian in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can Berthoud avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
