The Hondo Owls came tearing into Friday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They snuck past Crystal City with a 47-43 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Hondo also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
Several Javelinas players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lyndsie Bosquez, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Bosquez has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Riyannah Mena, who scored 13 points.
Hondo is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. As for Crystal City, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-13.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hondo will take on Lytle at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Lytle's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three games. As for Crystal City, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Cotulla at 4:30 p.m. Cotulla is hoping to put an end to a nine-game streak of away losses.
