The Chaparral Wolverines will square off against the Rock Canyon Jaguars at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Chaparral will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
While Chaparral's victory against Heritage wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wolverines narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Eagles 2-1.
Ryne Dodson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Dodson was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
In other pitching news, Chaparral got a great performance from Tommy Humphrey as he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
Dodson wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jake Barrows, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Rock Canyon came up short against Mountain Vista on Wednesday, falling 9-3.
Kaden Montz made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.
Chaparral's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Rock Canyon, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Chaparral hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Rock Canyon struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
