Basketball Recap: Hoopa Valley's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Tuesday

After flying high against Plumas Charter last Saturday, Hoopa Valley came back down to earth. The Hoopa Valley Warriors received a blow on Tuesday as they fell 68-54 to the Weed Cougars. The Warriors' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Hoopa Valley's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Charles Sorrel, who went 5 for 7 on his way to 10 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. Sorrel is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Brian Richards, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine boards.

Even though they lost, Hoopa Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in seven consecutive contests.

Hoopa Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 11-4. As for Weed, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-6.

Hoopa Valley will be playing in front of their home fans against South Fork at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Weed, they will venture away from home to square off against Mt. Shasta at 8:30 p.m. on January 14th.
