Athens waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They walked away with an 8-5 victory over the Normal Community Ironmen.

The team relied heavily on Whit Griffis, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brady Johnston, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Athens' win bumped their record up to 14-4. As for Normal Community, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.

Looking ahead, Athens will square off against Walnut Ridge at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Normal Community, they will take on Peoria Notre Dame at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
