Basketball Game Preview: Galena Hawks vs. Monroe Catholic Rams

Galena hasn't had much luck against Monroe Catholic recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Galena Hawks will face off against the Monroe Catholic Rams at 6:00 p.m. Galena will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

Galena will bounce into Friday's game after beating Valdez, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Galena sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 52-49 win over Valdez on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Hawks have posted since February 10, 2024.

Meanwhile, Monroe Catholic had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 66-7 win over the Hawks. The Rams have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matchups by 22 points or more this season.

Galena's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-4. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points per game. As for Monroe Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 10-2.

Galena was dealt a bruising 60-21 defeat at the hands of Monroe Catholic when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can Galena avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
