Softball Recap: Pope County Comes Up Short

Pope County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They came up short against the DuQuoin Indians, falling 8-1.

Kacie Fritch spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and seven unearned) runs on five hits.

Pope County's loss dropped their record down to 12-14. As for DuQuoin, their victory bumped their record up to 17-15.

Pope County didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 11-0 defeat against Harrisburg on the 15th. As for DuQuoin, they will square off against Marissa/Coulterville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Indians' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Meteors have averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season.
