Baseball Game Preview: Morehead Panthers vs. Dixon Bulldogs

Morehead is on a three-game streak of home losses, and Dixon a five-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Wednesday. The Morehead Panthers will take on the Dixon Bulldogs in a tournament on Wednesday.

Morehead's tournament run continued when they took on Eastern Alamance on Tuesday. The Panthers fell 7-2 to the Eagles.

Morehead saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Horton, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Dixon made sure to put some runs up on the board against Trinity on Tuesday. Dixon walked away with a 10-5 win over Trinity.

Grady Barnes tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits.

At the plate, Dixon let Chris Tesgle and Bryson Ponsock run wild. Tesgle scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Ponsock scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Ponsock has posted since back in March. Drew Barren was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Dixon's victory bumped their record up to 7-9. As for Morehead, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-11.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Morehead has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Dixon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
