Softball Recap: Saint Ignatius College Prep Comes Up Short

If Saint Ignatius College Prep was riding high fresh off their 11-1 takedown of Trinity on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wolfpack fell just short of the Reavis Rams by a score of 5-4 on Friday. The Wolfpack were not able to make up for their loss to the Rams from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Katie McClain spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Zoe Smith was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Saint Ignatius College Prep has also been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-13 record this season. As for Reavis, they pushed their record up to 14-11 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Saint Ignatius College Prep and Reavis could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Wolfpack will take on St. Francis at 4:45 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (324 vs. 115). Meanwhile, Reavis (ranked 285th) will meet Shepard (ranked 40th) at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
