Basketball Game Preview: Roma Gladiators vs. Nixon Mustangs

Roma is 0-10 against Nixon since December of 2014 but things could change on Friday. The Roma Gladiators will head out to square off against the Nixon Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Roma is headed into Friday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 43-38 heartbreaker at the hands of Mission Veterans Memorial.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Mariana Garcia, who went 5 of 12 on her way to 11 points. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexa Verastegui, who posted seven points and five steals.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Nixon's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 25-24 to Mission. The contest marked the Mustangs' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Nixon's defeat dropped their record down to 12-11. As for Roma, their loss dropped their record down to 10-15.

Roma ended up a good deal behind Nixon in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, losing 49-31. Can Roma avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
