Softball Recap: Vandalia Wins Going Away Against Shelbyville

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Greenville, Vandalia was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Shelbyville Rams as they made off with a 17-9 victory. For the Vandals, this counts as revenge for the 5-4 win the Rams walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2023.

Elaina Hagy was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mady McCall, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Vandalia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Vandalia moved to 4-8 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Shelbyville, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Coming up, Vandalia is taking a road trip to challenge Hillsboro at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Vandals are facing the Hiltoppers at the right time seeing as the Hiltoppers are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Shelbyville, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Central A & M at 4:30 p.m. on May 2.
