Baseball Game Preview: Voyager Academy Vikings vs. Rosewood Eagles

Voyager Academy has won six straight games at home, while Rosewood has won six straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. The Vikings will host the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Voyager Academy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Pamlico County 3-2.

Jacobi Purvis was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Carrick Ryan, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

Meanwhile, Rosewood never let their opponents score on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 victory over East Wake Academy. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Rosewood has posted since March 27th.

The result came thanks to Robbie Boren's shutout, as he gave up just four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Rosewood's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Cuyler Jones, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Rosewood is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.1 runs over those games. As for Voyager Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 23-2.

Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Voyager Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .354. However, it's not like Rosewood struggles in that department as they've averaged .316. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
