Baseball Recap: Culver Community Triumphs

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Culver Community walked away with it. They came out on top against the Oregon-Davis Bobcats by a score of 7-2 on Friday. The Cavaliers haven't had any issues with the Bobcats recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Caleb McCuen and Camran Whitworth were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, McCuen struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Whitworth pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. McCuen is becoming a predictor of Culver Community's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 2-1 (and 5-13 when he doesn't). At bat, McCuen went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs, while Whitworth went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double. That's the most stolen bases Whitworth has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Owen Tanner, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Drake Zorich was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Culver Community's win bumped their record up to 7-14. As for Oregon-Davis, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-16.

Looking ahead, Culver Community will face off against Elkhart Christian Academy at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Cavaliers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. Oregon-Davis does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
