Preview: International Academy Phoenix vs. Genesee Wolves
International Academy is 0-7 against Genesee since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The International Academy Phoenix will head out on the road to face off against the Genesee Wolves at 5:30 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, International Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over Atherton, taking the game 30-20. The victory was just what International Academy needed coming off of a 61-10 loss in their prior game.
Meanwhile, Genesee entered their tilt with Atherton with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Genesee breezed by Atherton at home to the tune of 55-13 on Tuesday. Genesee has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 21 points or more this season.
Averie Zinn was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 29 points and 13 steals. That makes it 15 consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Genesee's points. Another player making a difference was Selena Garcia, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
International Academy's win ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-6. As for Genesee, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a massive bump to their 10-5 record this season.
International Academy was taken down by Genesee 70-11 when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Thankfully for International Academy, Ryleigh Zinn (who dropped a double-double on 46 points and ten rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
