Baseball Recap: Lake Weir Comes Up Short

Lake Weir lost against Dunnellon last Thursday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Hurricanes fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 10-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Hurricanes have suffered against the Tigers since March 3, 2022.

Andrew Smith was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Cody Toth also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Lake Weir has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games. As for Dunnellon, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-13 record this season.
