Baseball Game Preview: New Roads Jaguars vs. Hawthorne Math & Science Academy Aviators

For the second straight game, New Roads will face off against Hawthorne Math & Science Academy. The Jaguars will welcome the Aviators at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

New Roads is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Hawthorne Math & Science Academy 18-2 on Wednesday. The win continues a trend for the Jaguars in their matchups with the Aviators: they've now won five in a row.

Santiago Jimenez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out 11 batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. New Roads is 3-1 when Jimenez allows one or fewer earned runs, but 4-7 otherwise. Jimenez was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, New Roads got a massive performance out of Donovan Eastwood, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Eastwood is becoming a predictor of the Jaguars' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-8 when he doesn't). Sebastian Berumen was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.

New Roads always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

New Roads' victory bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Hawthorne Math & Science Academy, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8-1.
