Softball Recap: Bushnell-Prairie City Spartans vs. Cuba/Spoon River Valley Wildcats

Bushnell-Prairie City had lost 11 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 0-14 to make it 12. They came up short against the Cuba/Spoon River Valley Wildcats, falling 13-1. The Spartans were not able to make up for their loss to the Wildcats from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Bushnell-Prairie City saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Triniti Williams, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

As for Cuba/Spoon River Valley, they moved to 9-4 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. Their offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last three games.

On Cuba/Spoon River Valley's side, Kacie White was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave White a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, earning one RBI, two runs, and three stolen bases.

In other batting news, Emma Probyn and Sam Thum did most of the damage at the plate: Probyn got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Thum got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Those two runs gave Probyn a new career-high. Emery Thrasher also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bushnell-Prairie City will face off against Havana at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Cuba/Spoon River Valley, they will take on West Prairie at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
