Basketball Recap: Desoto Piles Up the Points Against Sam Houston

The DeSoto Eagles took their contest on Thursday with ease, bagging an 86-53 victory over the Sam Houston Texans. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Eagles' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 256th, while the Texans are ranked 1124th).

DeSoto's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tra'Davien Young led the charge by putting up 21 points along with seven steals and six assists. Young is becoming a predictor of the Eagles' success: when he posts at least three steals the team is 3-1 (and 1-3 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Anthony Spencer III, who went 7-for-13 en route to 16 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: DeSoto was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January.

The win made it two in a row for DeSoto and bumps their season record up to 4-4. The team dominated over those games too, winning by an average of 32 points. As for Sam Houston, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.

Looking ahead, DeSoto will take on Kingdom Collegiate Academy in a tournament on Saturday. As for Sam Houston, they and MacArthur will face off at 8:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest, having both just played. The Texans will be up against the Cardinals' rather soft defense (which has allowed 60.4 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
