Basketball Game Preview: Itawamba Agricultural Indians vs. Smithville Seminoles

The Itawamba Agricultural Indians just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Smithville Seminoles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with three losses in a row, Itawamba Agricultural turned things around against Okolona on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Chieftains 53-50. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Indians have posted since December 17, 2024.

Meanwhile, Smithville was able to grind out a solid victory over Mantachie on Tuesday, taking the game 50-41. The Seminoles haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Itawamba Agricultural better keep an eye on Halle Sargent. She was instrumental in Smithville's win, dropping a triple-double with 18 points, 16 boards, and ten blocks. That's the most rebounds Sargent has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sophie Hass, who put up 17 points and eight boards.

Smithville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in eight consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Itawamba Agricultural's record is now 6-3. As for Smithville, their record now sits at 5-2.

Itawamba Agricultural strolled past Smithville in their previous matchup back in January of 2021 by a score of 59-45. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
