Baseball Recap: Fort Collins Takes a Loss

Fort Collins extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 8-12 in the process. They lost 15-0 to the Broomfield Eagles. If the Lambkins were looking for revenge after losing 8-4 to the Eagles when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Fort Collins saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaden Souders, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

As for Broomfield, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 18-3. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matches by seven runs or more this season.

On Broomfield's side, Maverick Scarpella tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Scarpella has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Caden Williamson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Brendan Fritch was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fort Collins will welcome Poudre at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Impalas will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last. As for Broomfield, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Longmont at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in the Eagles' favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while the Trojans have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
