Recap: Deer Trail Eagles vs. Cripple Creek-Victor Pioneers
The Deer Trail Eagles won the last time they faced the Cripple Creek-Victor Pioneers, and things went their way on Saturday too. Deer Trail came out on top against Cripple Creek-Victor by a score of 32-21. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Deer Trail.
Deer Trail's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ally Hardwick, who scored 14 points along with 9 rebounds and 6 steals. Hardwick is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Megan Donovan, who scored 7 points along with 13 rebounds and 7 blocks.
Several Pioneers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Allyson Durham, who scored 8 points. Durham scored a full 38.1% of Cripple Creek-Victor's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Ruby Estes was another key contributor, scoring 5 points.
Deer Trail now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Cripple Creek-Victor, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.
Deer Trail will be playing at home against Hanover at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cripple Creek-Victor, they will head out on the road to face off against Cotopaxi at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Cotopaxi presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Cripple Creek-Victor in Colorado (Cotopaxi is ranked 69th, while Cripple Creek-Victor is ranked 235th).
