Basketball Recap: Canyon Takes a Loss

Canyon has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 57-56 heartbreaker at the hands of the West Ranch Wildcats. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Cowboys came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 140th, while the Wildcats are ranked 352nd).

Several Cowboys players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Chigozie Osuji, who posted 18 points. Another player making a difference was Isaac Yuhico, who scored 13 points.

Canyon's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-6. As for West Ranch, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 9-11 record this season.

Canyon has already played their next contest, a 77-61 loss against Oaks Christian on the 25th. As for West Ranch, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 79-65 defeat against Saugus on the 24th.
