Softball Recap: Gateway Takes a Loss

After flying high against East Lee County on Thursday, Gateway came back down to earth. The Gateway Eagles came up short against the Oasis Sharks on Friday, falling 14-3. The game marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Gateway saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Presley Murphy, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Gateway moved to 5-4 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Oasis, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gateway will host Cape Coral at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Gateway has given up an average of 9.7 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. As for Oasis, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Island Coast at 6:30 p.m.
