Basketball Recap: Regis Jesuit Raiders vs. Heritage Eagles
In what's become a running theme this season, the Regis Jesuit Raiders gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They breezed by Heritage on the road to the tune of 79-27. Given Regis Jesuit's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while the Eagles are ranked 168th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Regis Jesuit to victory were Coryn Watts and Hana Belibi. Watts scored 17 points along with four steals, while Belibi dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. Watts has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jane Rumpf, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Avalon Lux-offermann, who scored eight points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Grace Hankins, who scored six points.
Regis Jesuit's win was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-6. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.8 points per game. As for Heritage, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-15.
Regis Jesuit will be playing at home against the Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Highlands Ranch's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five matches. As for Heritage, they will head out on the road to take on the Golden Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
