Recap: Fort Cobb-Broxton Mustangs vs. Carnegie Wildcats

The Fort Cobb-Broxton Mustangs had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.4 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They walked away with a 60-50 victory over Carnegie. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Fort Cobb-Broxton also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2022.

Jalen Wallace and Duane Cavaness certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Wallace scored 21 points along with eight assists, while Cavaness dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds. The contest was Wallace's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Paden Jackson, who scored seven points.

Fort Cobb-Broxton pushed their record up to 8-2 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points per game. As for Carnegie, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fort Cobb-Broxton will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Hinton at 8:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Hinton will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Oklahoma Rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while Fort Cobb-Broxton is ranked 36th). Carnegie will be home for the holidays to greet Wewoka at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wewoka is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.
