Basketball Recap: Jaishawn Woods and OB Lowery Jr. Secure Win for South Point

South Point posted their biggest victory since December 18, 2024 on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 70-48 margin over the North Gaston Wildcats. Given the Red Raiders' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 219th, while the Wildcats are ranked 455th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

South Point was led to victory by OB Lowery Jr. and Jaishawn Woods. Lowery Jr. went 8 of 14 en route to 21 points, while Woods almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Woods a new career-high in steals (six). Another player making a difference was Landon Hunt, who went 5 for 11 on his way to 13 points.

South Point was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Gaston only racked up eight assists.

North Gaston lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Markell Carothers, who went 6 of 14 en route to 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jalen Howard, who posted 15 points and seven boards.

South Point's win bumped their record up to 10-7. As for North Gaston, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.

South Point didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 65-63 defeat against Kings Mountain on the 24th. As for North Gaston, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 66-51 loss against Crest on the 24th.
