Rocky Mountain hasn't had much luck against Owyhee recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Grizzlies will face off against the Storm at 3:00 p.m. Rocky Mountain is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Rocky Mountain is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They came out on top against Thunder Ridge by a score of 8-7 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The game was the first time the Grizzlies have beaten the Titans on their field since May 21, 2021.
The team relied heavily on Tayler Kloczko, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Aubrey Sorensen was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
Meanwhile, Owyhee faced Rocky Mountain in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Storm were the clear victors by a 7-0 margin over the Grizzlies. The Storm might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 contests by seven runs or more this season.
The result came thanks to Hailey Bock's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Haiylee Reeves was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was McKenna Schab, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Owyhee pushed their record up to 24-1 with the victory, which was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games. As for Rocky Mountain, their victory bumped their record up to 16-14.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Rocky Mountain hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Owyhee struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Rocky Mountain might still be hurting after the 7-0 defeat they got from Owyhee in their previous matchup on Wednesday. Can the Grizzlies avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
