Basketball Recap: Grand Junction Takes a Loss

It was a proper cat-fight when Grand Junction challenged Fruita Monument on Friday. The Grand Junction Tigers were beaten by the Fruita Monument Wildcats 67-35. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 146th, while the Wildcats are ranked 30th).

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Harper Young, who posted 11 points.

Fruita Monument had a senior duo take command as Olivia Campbell went 6-for-11 en route to 17 points along with six rebounds and five steals and Mckenzie Mason went 8-for-14 to rack up 21 points and three steals. Campbell has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Hailee Wagner was another key player, going 6-for-11 on her way to 14 points.

Grand Junction has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season. As for Fruita Monument, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-6.

Grand Junction didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 41-34 defeat against Palisade on the 11th. As for Fruita Monument, they have also already played their next game, a 56-19 win against Grand Junction Central on the 11th.
