League recap: Trenton climbs in state rankings with win

Trenton moved up to 136 from 172 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 1A District 6. The Tigers climbed the ranks as a result of topping Dixie County 33-6.

Trenton extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Bears, 33-6. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.

The Tigers' dynamic duo of Stephen Smith and Hamp Cheevers proved tough for Dixie County to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Smith threw for 80 yards and two touchdowns and Cheevers had 46 yards receiving. Hunter Parrish helped Trenton's passing attack out by catching one ball for 17 yards.

Josh Conner was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 25 carries, he ran for 192 yards as Hilliard topped Brent Wilkerson's team. Brian Clark also contributed to the rushing game with 151 yards on the ground.

The Tigers' Smith and Cheevers have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 1A District 6 in both passing and receiving yards. Smith has thrown for 459 yards this season, while Cheevers, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has five catches for 200 yards. The Red Flashes' Conner leads the league in rushing yards with 1096.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Bronson takes on Hilliard. At the moment, the Eagles are in fourth, while Paul Whittenburg's team is in second.
