Softball Game Preview: University Trojans vs. Rio Hondo Prep Kares

The University Trojans will take on the Rio Hondo Prep Kares at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

University is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over Ramona Convent. The win was nothing new for the Trojans as they're now sitting on four straight.

Carson Cruz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Cruz was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three RBI and one run.

In other batting news, University let Sophia Weinberg and Alexandra McBride run wild. Weinberg went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs, while McBride went 4-for-5 with one run and one RBI. That's the most hits McBride has posted since back in April. Gidget Smith was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

University kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They are 10-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rio Hondo Prep). They put the hurt on Adelanto with a sharp 22-11 victory on Saturday. Winning may never get old, but the Kares sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

TARA RILEY was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with one home run and five runs. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was SAM MONTEZ, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Rio Hondo Prep pushed their record up to 20-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for University, their win bumped their record up to 15-10.
