Softball Recap: Tolsia Continues Home Dominance on Wednesday

Tolsia hadn't done well against Fairview recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Tolsia came out on top against Fairview by a score of 14-11. The Rebels' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Kalynn Salmons made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and five unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing seven bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.7 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, Tolsia let Ava Lyons and Carly Johnson run wild. Lyons went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two doubles, while Johnson scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-5. Those three RBI gave Lyons a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bailee Belt, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 1-for-3.

Tolsia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .561. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .541 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Tolsia's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Fairview, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Fairview beat Tolsia by a score of 13-5 later that day.
