Desert Edge hasn't had much luck against Canyon View recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Scorpions will head out to take on the Jaguars at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Desert Edge's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They walked away with a 5-0 win over Paradise Valley.
Ryann Dobbins (2025) looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Desert Edge saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aliyah Fatigoni (2027), who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Another was Gwen Alvarez (2026), who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, Canyon View faced Verrado in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Jaguars came out on top against the Vipers by a score of 4-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Jaguars.
Emily Davis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 11 Ks.
At the plate, Rylen Buchberger was excellent, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Downs, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.
Canyon View was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They are a perfect 16-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Canyon View pushed their record up to 19-4 with the victory, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10.8 runs. As for Desert Edge, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-11 record this season.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Desert Edge hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .390. However, it's not like Canyon View struggles in that department as they've averaged .446. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Desert Edge might still be hurting after the 21-3 loss they got from Canyon View in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can the Scorpions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
