Baseball Recap: Deep Creek Comes Up Short

Deep Creek extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping them down to 2-10. They came up short against the Hickory Hawks, falling 12-2. If the Hornets were looking for revenge after losing 28-0 to the Hawks when the teams met back in May of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Owen Hoertt was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run.

As for Hickory, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.1 runs over those games.

On Hickory's side, Jaden Maderia looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Maderia has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Nickel Ryan, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2025. Matthew Kemick was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
