League recap: Springfield wins, gets boost in standings

2A District 8 recap Sept. 26, 2012

Springfield was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in 2A District 8. The Bulldogs vanquished the Bulldogs 38-6 earlier in the week.

St. Helena Central moved up to 206 from 260 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Hawks climbed the ranks as a result of a 34-6 win over East Iberville.

Gharmaine Ashton was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 13 carries, he ran for 70 yards as Springfield lost to Live Oak. Teammate Shaquille Smith added to the ground attack by rushing for 51 yards.

Pine's Derrick Dillion and Tevin Causey have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 2A District 8 in both passing and receiving yards. Dillion has thrown for 261 yards this season, while Causey, a 5-foot-7 receiver, has six catches for 127 yards. Ryan Serpas's team's Ashton leads the league in rushing yards with 401.

Aquinas led the league in scoring this week after putting up 38 points on Bonnabel.
