Flag Football Recap: El Rancho Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

It may have taken triple overtime to finish the job, but El Rancho ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They secured a 25-19 W over the Santa Fe Chiefs. The win was some much needed relief for the Dons as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Melissa Perez had a dynamite game, rushing for 90 yards and a pair of scores, while also throwing for 228 yards and two TDs.

El Rancho didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off five passes before the game was over. Alany Jacobo led the group effort, picking up three of those interceptions all by herself. She also set a new season-high mark in defended passes with four.

El Rancho's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 5-5. As for Santa Fe, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. El Rancho will face off against rival La Serna at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Dons 14.4, the Lancers 13.1) so any points scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Santa Fe is set to square off against their familiar foe Whittier at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
