Softball Game Preview: Churchill Lancers vs. Crater Comets

Churchill is 1-9 against Crater since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Lancers will square off against the Comets at 5:00 p.m.

Ashland hit Churchill with a six-run first inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Lancers fell just short of the Grizzlies by a score of 10-9.

Lexie Hoberg and Abigail Wiscovich did some serious damage despite the final result: Hoberg went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Wiscovich went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Wiscovich is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jolene Bousquet, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI.

Meanwhile, Crater had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They came out on top against the Irish by a score of 7-4.

Crater pushed their record up to 5-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Churchill, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9.

Churchill suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Crater in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Lancers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
