Softball Preview: St. Charles vs. Northern Patriots

St. Charles is 0-8 against Northern since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. St. Charles will be staying on the road to face off against the Northern Patriots at 4:30 p.m.

Last Monday, St. Charles fell victim to a tough 20-3 defeat at the hands of Leonardtown.

Meanwhile, Northern had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs), and they went ahead and made it five on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Chargers as they made off with a 20-1 win. Considering Northern has won five games by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Danielle Sypolt made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Sypolt has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in three consecutive pitching appearances. Sypolt was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two RBI.

In other batting news, Reagan Powell was incredible, going 2-for-2 with three runs, four RBI, and a triple. Another player making a difference was Peyton Dolina, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

St. Charles now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Northern, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-2.
