Volleyball Recap: Wauseon Comes Up Short

If Wauseon was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Start on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Indians came up short against the Otsego Knights on Saturday, falling 3-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Indians of the 2-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2024.

Wauseon was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Otsego work for it, especially in the second set. The final score came out to 25-21, 29-27, 25-19.

Despite the loss, Wauseon still got an impressive performance from Bella McGuire, who had 28 digs and two aces. McGuire is crushing it when it comes to digs: she's had at least 11 every time she's taken the court this season.

Otsego got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sophia Borer out in front who had 13 digs.

Wauseon has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Otsego, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-6.

Wauseon and Otsego could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Indians (ranked 494th) will meet Paulding (ranked 170th) at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Otsego will challenge Fairview at 7:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (246 vs. 96).
