Baseball Recap: Holy Name Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Holy Name had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Padua Franciscan Bruins. This was payback for the Green Wave, who suffered a 9-7 loss the last time these two teams met.

Dom Marchetta spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Holy Name saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nick Nemeth, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Michael Oleksik also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Holy Name's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-7 and their overall record up to 9-11. As for Padua Franciscan, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-9.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Bruins beat Holy Name by a score of 9-2 on Tuesday.
