Baseball Recap: Robert C. Byrd Takes a Loss

It was a good run, but Robert C. Byrd unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Grafton Bearcats by a score of 9-8. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bearcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Cooper Floyd and Xavier Carvelli stepped up to the plate in a big way. Floyd got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Carvelli went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Carvelli has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Saverio Destito, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Robert C. Byrd's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 7-3. As for Grafton, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-7.

Coming up, Robert C. Byrd will take on South Harrison at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Hawks' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Grafton, they will face off against East Fairmont at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
