Basketball Recap: Wootton Comes Up Short

Wootton lost against Sherwood back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Wootton Patriots received a blow as they fell 75-57 to the Sherwood Warriors. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 145th, while the Warriors are ranked 22nd).

When it comes to explaining why Wootton lost, don't look at Chase Mitchell. Despite the final result, he went 7 of 15 en route to 19 points. Mitchell's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Darnel Engoto, who posted eight points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Wootton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Wootton's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Sherwood, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 17-1.

Wootton has already played their next matchup, a 54-51 victory against Churchill on the 4th. Sherwood has also already played their next game (against Richard Montgomery), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
