Basketball Game Preview: James Monroe Yellow Jackets vs. Chancellor Chargers

James Monroe and Chancellor are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2020, but not for long. The James Monroe Yellow Jackets will venture away from home to square off against the Chancellor Chargers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (James Monroe has three straight wins, Chancellor has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

James Monroe will bounce into Tuesday's match after beating Courtland, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. James Monroe walked away with a 66-58 victory over Courtland on Monday.

Meanwhile, Chancellor fought the good fight in their overtime game against Eastern View on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cyclones by a score of 73-70. While losing is never fun, the Chargers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 323rd, while the Cyclones are ranked 76th).

James Monroe will have to contain Larell Edwards as he made an impact in Chancellor's last game. He posted 20 points and eight rebounds. Edwards' evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Nathan Reich, who put up 12 points and six rebounds.

James Monroe pushed their record up to 3-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.3 points per game. As for Chancellor, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

James Monroe didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Chancellor in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 74-69 victory.
