Football Game Preview: Montgomery Red Raiders vs. Cowanesque Valley Indians

The Montgomery Red Raiders will take on the Cowanesque Valley Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Montgomery will bounce into Friday's contest after beating South Williamsport, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Red Raiders simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Mountaineers 42-14. The victory was nothing new for the Red Raiders as they're now sitting on seven straight.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Josh Knoebel and Trace Furman. Knoebel rushed for 103 yards and three touchdowns while Furman rushed for 105 yards and a pair of scores on only 13 carries. The dominant performance also gave Furman a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two).

Meanwhile, Cowanesque Valley hadn't done well against North Penn-Mansfield recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Indians blew past the Tigers 35-8.

Montgomery better focus on containing Kegan Lane and Dave Hess as the pair were huge in Cowanesque Valley's win. Lane rushed for 190 yards and one TD, while Hess rushed for 111 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 12 carries. Lane has become a key player for Cowanesque Valley: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least 80 rushing yards, but 1-2 otherwise.

Cowanesque Valley was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 308 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 157 rushing yards in six consecutive games.

Cowanesque Valley didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Hess.

Montgomery's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Cowanesque Valley, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Everything came up roses for Montgomery against Cowanesque Valley in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 36-0 victory. Will the Red Raiders repeat their success, or do the Indians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
