With a playoff win on the line, Monterey rose to the challenge on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 50-32 win over the Americas Trail Blazers. For the Plainsmen, this counts as revenge for the 35-28 victory the Trail Blazers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2015.

Darron Moore was his usual excellent self, rushing for 210 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.1 yards per carry. Those three rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Jonah Reed was another major influence, as he rushed for 17 yards and ran in a TD.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Monterey was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 346 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Americas' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maurice Edwards, who picked up 82 receiving yards and a pair of TDs, and also rushed for 69 yards. Another player making a difference was Emiliano Gonzalez, who threw for 172 yards and two touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes.

Monterey now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Americas, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 6-5.
