The Riverton Parke Panthers are taking a road trip to challenge the Covington Trojans at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Riverton Parke is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Riverton Parke is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 25 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against North Central on Friday. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Thunderbirds.
AJ Goff was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one RBI.
In other batting news, Jackson While made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Covington was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of Seeger. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 2, 2023, but that streak is no more.
Covington also got a good showing from Carson Schaeffer, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Schaeffer has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Davyn Green was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. Covington is 4-1 when Green posts two or more runs, but 5-6 otherwise.
Riverton Parke's record is now 9-5. As for Covington, their record now sits at 9-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Riverton Parke has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Covington struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
