Basketball Recap: Martinsville Artesians vs. Whiteland Warriors

Martinsville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They had to suffer through a 90-61 loss at the hands of the Whiteland Warriors. While losing is never fun, the Artesians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 261st, while the Warriors are ranked 85th).

Martinsville's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zhane Capshaw, who on his way to 20 points and five boards. Capshaw is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Hunter Stroud, who to rack up 22 points.

Whiteland had a senior duo take command as Gavin Stubbe en route to 23 points and eight rebounds and Ethan Edwards on his way to 30 points. Edwards has become a key player for Whiteland: the team is undefeated when he posts at least 30 points, but 8-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Joban Kalkat, who posted ten points.

Martinsville's loss dropped their record down to 5-15. As for Whiteland, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-11.

Martinsville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 102-62 defeat against Greenfield-Central on the 22nd. As for Whiteland, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 67-65 victory against Jennings County on the 22nd.
