Softball Recap: Ponchatoula Gets the Win

While Ponchatoula's victory against Mandeville wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Ponchatoula Green Wave narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Mandeville Skippers 6-5. The Green Wave haven't had any issues with the Skippers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Abby Dagro spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on 11 hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Paityn Lancaster was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Rae'El Wheat was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Ponchatoula pushed their record up to 9-9 with the win, which was their third straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Mandeville, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-3.

Coming up, Ponchatoula will head out to take on Covington at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mandeville, they will take on Hammond at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
